Captive Portal

Portal settings, SMS/WhatsApp portal settings and portal language settings

Portal Settings

The Captive Portal is the login screen your guests see before they connect to Wi-Fi. On this page you manage its appearance, which details are required to log in, the legal texts, and the advertisement slots.

How do I open this screen? From the left menu, go to Captive Portal → Portal Settings.

Note: the panel interface is only partly translated. Where a control still appears in Turkish on screen, the Turkish label is given in brackets so you can find it.

The page has three tabs: General Settings, Theme Settings and Advertisements. The Preview on the right reflects every change instantly — you see the result without saving.

Portal Settings screen

1. General Settings

This tab defines the basic behaviour of the portal.

Enter the addresses of your Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram and YouTube pages. These icons appear on the welcome screen so guests can reach you in one tap. Any field you leave empty hides its icon.

Wi-Fi Connection (for QR)

Enter your network details so guests can join in a single tap from a QR code.

Confirm your changes with Save.

2. Theme Settings

This tab is where you set the visual identity of the portal.

Tip: the Captive Portal Preview panel on the right updates instantly, so you can try colours out without saving.

3. Advertisements

This tab manages the advertisement and announcement content shown on the welcome screen. The list has Title and Status columns.

Use the + Advertisements button to add a new record:

Use the Status column to switch an advert off without deleting it.

SMS Portal Settings

The SMS Portal Settings screen is used to switch registration by mobile phone number on or off on the welcome screen. The guest enters their number, is verified by the confirmation SMS, and gets internet access.

How do I open this screen? From the left menu, go to Captive Portal → SMS Portal Settings.

SMS Portal Settings screen

In practice this screen does one job: turning the module on or off. The welcome screen's title, appearance, the details requested and the legal texts are all managed on Captive Portal → Portal Settings. The detailed fields on this page are no longer used.

SMS Module

The SMS Module switch sits at the top of the page. While the module is off, the screen shows only this warning:

"Warning! SMS module is currently turned off. If you want your system to accept registration via SMS, you must activate the module."

Turning the module on is not enough on its own: for the guest to receive a verification code, your provider details, the message text and the group the guest is added to must be configured under Settings → SMS Settings. If the module is on but the SMS settings are missing, the guest never gets a code and cannot log in.

How do I test the result?

After saving, open the welcome screen as the guest sees it. Connect a device to your test network's portal address (for example http://192.168.2.1:8090/) and confirm the login options appear as expected.

WhatsApp Portal Settings

The WhatsApp Portal screen is used to switch WhatsApp login on or off on the welcome screen. The guest taps "Log in with WhatsApp", sends the message in the chat that opens, and is logged in automatically once delivery is confirmed. Because it uses no SMS credit, it is the preferred option at busy locations.

How do I open this screen? From the left menu, go to Captive Portal → WhatsApp Portal.

WhatsApp login module

The WhatsApp login module switch sits at the top of the page. While the module is off, the screen shows only this warning:

"Warning! Whatsapp module is currently turned off. If you want your system to accept registration with Whatsapp, you must activate the module."

Critical — firewall permissions: for the WhatsApp flow to work while the guest is still behind the captive portal, your firewall (walled garden) must allow *.wa.me, *.whatsapp.com, *.whatsapp.net, g.whatsapp.net, mmg.whatsapp.net, fbsbx.com and *.useroam.com. Without these rules the WhatsApp login screen will not open even with the module enabled. See the page for your device under Installation Guides.

The message text, the group the guest is added to and the service configuration are set on Settings → WhatsApp Settings.

Portal Language Settings

Portal Language Settings show which languages the welcome screen is offered in. When a guest switches language on the portal, they choose from the languages defined in this list.

How do I open this screen? From the left menu, go to Captive Portal → Portal Language Settings.

Which language does the portal open in? The startup language is not set here but under Portal Settings → General Settings → Default Language. The list on this page determines the options available in that field.
